As the name suggests, a defoamer is a chemical additive that eliminates foam. When an organosilicone defoamer is added to a foaming system, it disperses quickly. The surfactant molecules align on the bubble surface. When the organosilicone defoamer reaches a certain concentration, and there are enough surfactant molecules, a thin film forms on the bubble wall, reducing its surface tension and increasing the gas-liquid contact area. This ultimately makes the bubbles less likely to coalesce and break. Compared to other types of defoamers, organosilicone defoamers have the following characteristics: 1. Wide application range: Due to the insolubility of silicone oil in various substances, it has a wide range of applications, suitable for both water and oil systems. 2. Low surface tension and good defoaming efficiency. 3. Good thermal stability, usable over a wide temperature range.
4. Good chemical stability; with proper formulation, silicone defoamers can be used in systems containing acids, alkalis, and salts. Silicone defoamers possess excellent defoaming and foam-suppressing properties, are characterized by low dosage, good chemical inertness, and the ability to function effectively under harsh conditions.
