How to choose the right silicone oil
Silicone oil is generally a colorless (or pale yellow), odorless, non-toxic, and non-volatile liquid. It is insoluble in water, methanol, glycols, and ethoxyethanol, but miscible with benzene, dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone, carbon tetrachloride, or kerosene. It is slightly soluble in acetone, dioxane, ethanol, and ethanol. It has a very low vapor pressure, a high flash point and ignition point, and a low freezing point. As the number of chain segments (n) increases, the molecular weight and viscosity also increase; therefore, silicone oil can have various viscosities, from 0.65 centistokes to millions of centistokes. To obtain low-viscosity silicone oil, acidic clay can be used as a catalyst and polymerized at 180°C, or sulfuric acid can be used as a catalyst and polymerized at a lower temperature. Alkaline catalysts can be used to produce high-viscosity silicone oil or viscous substances.
Silicone oils are classified by chemical structure into methyl silicone oil, ethyl silicone oil, phenyl silicone oil, methyl hydrogen silicone oil, methyl phenyl silicone oil, methyl chlorophenyl silicone oil, methyl ethoxy silicone oil, methyl trifluoropropyl silicone oil, methyl vinyl silicone oil, methyl hydroxy silicone oil, ethyl hydrogen silicone oil, hydroxy hydrogen silicone oil, and cyanide silicone oil, etc. They are also classified by application into damping silicone oil, diffusion pump silicone oil, hydraulic oil, insulating oil, heat transfer oil, and brake fluid, etc.

Main Uses:
1. Used as an insulating, lubricating, shock-absorbing, dust-proofing oil, dielectric fluid, and heat carrier.
3. Used for treating sewing threads, increasing lubrication and preventing thread breakage on high-speed sewing machines.
4. Used for softening fabrics, increasing fabric lubrication, smoothness, fullness, and elasticity.
Silicone oil is widely used in electronics, building materials, motor manufacturing, transportation, petrochemicals, textiles, printing and dyeing, thread making, finishing processes to improve the smoothness and elasticity of various polyester and polyester-cotton/polyester-rayon textiles, as well as in medicine, aerospace research, and military technology.
