How to “enhance flavor and freshness” for the silicone industry?

Mar 27, 2025

In the industrial field, organosilicon also plays a similar role and is known as "industrial MSG". Just adding a little organosilicon in the production process can greatly improve the performance and effect of the product. Recently, in the laboratory of the Special Chemicals Research Institute of the "Two Institutes" of Zhejiang University in Quzhou, researchers are busy with the technical research of the organosilicon functional material-olefin monomer continuous hydrolysis project.

From aerospace sealants to cosmetics, from medical catheters to baby pacifiers, silicone is widely used in daily life, with tens of thousands of downstream products. Quzhou is an important base for the silicone industry. If it wants to be invincible in the competition, it is urgently needed to continuously improve the core competitiveness of enterprises through technological innovation.

Enterprises have needs, and the institutes take action. The "Two Institutes" of Zhejiang University Quzhou and Zhejiang Jiahui New Materials Co., Ltd. have cooperated to build the "Joint R&D Center for Silicone New Materials". Through collaborative innovation between institutes and enterprises and sharing of advantageous resources, the core competitiveness of silicone intermediates is enhanced, and the silicone industry is promoted to develop towards high-end, intelligent, and green.

"At present, our team has cooperated with Jiahui New Materials to overcome technical difficulties such as the continuous alcoholysis of organosilicon phenyl monomers and vinyl chlorosilane monomers, and carried out pilot tests on a 100-ton chlorosilane alcoholysis unit, comprehensively examining the process stability and safety under different working conditions, laying the foundation for the next step of industrial production of the product." Liu Fanmin, deputy director of the Institute of Special Chemicals, introduced.

As a high-level innovation platform jointly built by Zhejiang University and Quzhou City, the "Two Institutes" of Zhejiang University Quzhou actively promote the integration of institutes, local governments and enterprises, and the deep integration of industry, academia and research, gather the strength of all parties to work together in technical research, achievement transformation, talent training and other aspects, promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation, and accelerate the transformation of more scientific and technological achievements into new quality productivity. So far, more than 250 horizontal technology contracts have been signed with enterprises, and more than 20 enterprises have been introduced and incubated in Quzhou.
