There are significant differences between methyl and modified silicone fluids in terms of chemical structure, properties and applications.
First of all, from the perspective of chemical structure, methyl silicone oil, also known as ordinary silicone oil, has all its organic groups methyl. In contrast, modified silicone oil is a further modification of methyl silicone oil by introducing other organic groups such as hydrogen, ethyl, phenyl, chlorophenyl, trifluoropropyl, etc., to obtain special properties and uses.
In terms of performance, methyl silicone oil has many excellent properties. It has good chemical stability, insulation, and hydrophobic properties. In addition, its molecular structure is stable, will not be damaged by thermal oxidation, viscosity temperature characteristics and viscosity will not be changed by this, and thermal oxidation stability is better. Modified silicone fluids further enhance certain properties, such as hydrogenated silicone oils, ethyl silicone oils, phenyl silicone oils, chlorophenyl silicone oils, trifluoropropyl silicone oils, etc., which have different viscosities, high heat resistance, water resistance, electrical insulation, and low surface tension.
In terms of application, methyl silicone oil is widely used in various departments of industrial and agricultural production, national defense industry, scientific research and medical and health care because of its good performance. For example, emulsified or modified for the smooth and soft feel of textile finishing, and emulsified silicone oil is added to the shampoo of daily care products to improve the lubrication of hair. Modified silicone oil is suitable for some special application scenarios, such as liquid viscous transmission systems working under high temperature conditions, because the viscosity of general methyl silicone oil will be significantly reduced after long-term work under high temperature conditions, and modified silicone oil can overcome this problem.
In general, both methyl silicone fluids and modified silicone fluids are important synthetic materials, and they have their own characteristics in terms of chemical structure, properties and applications. Methyl silicone fluids have good chemical stability, insulation, and hydrophobic properties and are widely used, while modified silicone fluids can obtain special properties and uses by introducing other organic groups.
