The difference between RTV and HTV silicone

Dec 18, 2023

The difference between RTV and HTV silicone is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1. Vulcanization temperature: The vulcanization temperature of RTV silicone is generally carried out at room temperature, while HTV silicone  needs to be vulcanized at high temperature.

2. Molecular weight: The molecular weight of RTV silicone is low, generally 30,000~60,000, while the molecular weight of HTV silicone is higher, generally 400,000~800,000.

3. Processing method: RTV silicone processing does not need to be mixed and heated/pressure molding and other processes, simple to prepare and easy to use. HTV silicone needs to be heated to cross-link the rubber molecules to become a highly elastic vulcanized rubber.

4. Applications:

RTV silicone is mainly used as adhesives, sealants, protective coatings, potting materials or molding materials. Its     advantages are simple processing, easy to use, a wide variety of types, wide range of applications, and can be formed on site.

HTV silicone is mainly used to manufacture various silicone rubber products, such as ordinary silicone rubber buttons.

Its advantages are that it has good processing performance, the molded adhesive is vulcanized with "double-2,5" vulcanizing agent, which is suitable for the production of ordinary silicone rubber products and miscellaneous parts, ordinary silicone rubber buttons, especially suitable for adding color products, and the extrusion adhesive is vulcanized with "double-2,4" vulcanizing agent, which is suitable for the production of low-grade silicone rubber miscellaneous extrusion products.

To sum up, there are obvious differences between RTV and HTV silicone in terms of vulcanization temperature, molecular weight, processing method and application field.
