Applications And Differences Of Different Viscosities Of Dimethicone

Dec 07, 2023

One: The basic properties of dimethicone oil Dimethicone is a linear oligosiloxane with the chemical formula (CH3)3SiO[(CH3)2SiO]nSi(CH3)3. It has good chemical, thermal, mechanical, electrically insulating and biocompatibility. Dimethicone is a non-toxic, odorless, colorless, and non-flammable liquid. It has low surface tension, low volatility and good lubricating properties, and is an important lubricant.

Two: The concept of viscosity and unit viscosity is the property of the fluid to resist deformation movement internally. The greater the viscosity, the greater the resistance to flow and vice versa. Viscosity is measured in pastecoseconds (Pa·s) and can also be expressed in smaller millipascals (mPa·s). In industry, commonly used viscosity units include heptanetriane number (cSt) and pound-seconds/in² (lb·s/in²).

Three: Application and difference under different viscosities

1. Low viscosity dimethicone oil (10-100cSt): Low viscosity dimethicone oil has good fluidity and volatility, and is mainly used in grinding fluids, printing inks, food additives and other fields. Its good flow ability allows it to improve process performance to a great extent.

2. Medium viscosity dimethicone oil (100-1000cSt): Medium viscosity dimethicone oil is widely used in household and industrial uses, such as skin care products, hair serums, sunscreens, cosmetics, glues, printing inks, latex paints and other fields. Its lubricating properties and chemical stability are good.

3. High viscosity dimethicone oil (1000-10000cSt): High viscosity dimethicone oil is mainly used in high-temperature sealing materials, electronic component packaging materials, paint thickeners, adhesives, mold polishing agents and other fields. Under high temperature conditions, its viscosity is not easy to change, and it has good high temperature resistance. In conclusion, dimethicone fluids with different viscosities have different applications and properties. Choosing the right viscosity is very important for both production and application. When using, it is recommended to choose the appropriate viscosity according to the specific application requirements, and use it at normal temperature and pressure to give full play to its performance and improve production efficiency and product quality.
